Argentina condemns new constitution for Falkland Islands

The Argentine foreign ministry reacted with indignation last week to the United Kingdom's approval of a new constitution for the Falkland Islands. Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana said the new constitution constituted a “flagrant violation of the mandate accorded us by the United Nations", and accused the UK of seeking to perpetuate “an anachronistic colonial situation". He said his government would lodge a formal complaint against what he described as a “violation of Argentine sovereignty".
