ECUADOR: Correa still after 2010 ‘coup plotters’

President Rafael Correa is still pressing to find evidence that the 30 September 2010 police mutiny was in effect an attempted coup d’etat. Over the past week, one of the cases brought by the government has resulted in the conviction of a former leader of the teachers’ union on charges of sabotage and terrorism. Separately Correa has persuaded the chief prosecutor, Galo Chiriboga, to investigate a journalist on the strength of a suspect ‘tweet’.
