POLITICS: Keeping up the legislative momentum ahead of 2014

After three years it is becoming increasingly clear that the President Juan Manuel Santos-led administration’s political credit with the Unidad Nacional coalition that supports it in congress has been substantially eroded. President Santos, who is remaining coy about a possible bid for re-election next year, has correctly calculated that he needs to get things done this year, before time runs out. But in pushing through his latest projects, including some very controversial ones, his has pushed his allies to the max.
