The local broadsheet El Comercio on 16 June published the results of the latest omnibus public opinion survey by the respected pollsters Ipsos Perú, according to which President Ollanta Humala’s approval rating levels fell for the fourth consecutive month to reach 41%. Another survey by GfK pollsters for the daily La República, published on 23 June, produced similar results, with Humala’s approval down five percentage points from May to 39% in June. His disapproval rating also rose in both surveys*, with Ipsos Perú putting it at 53% and GfK at 55%, the highest levels since Humala took office in July 2011. Importantly, the highest levels of disapproval were found in the lowest socio-economic groups, which constitute Humala’s core constituency.
