HONDURAS: Investigations directorate to be rebuilt from scratch

After two years of trying to root corruption out of the police force, the government of President Porfirio Lobo, with a new broom at the security ministry, has set in motion the replacement or complete overhaul of the police’s criminal investigations directorate. An investigation had revealed collusion of members of that directorate with organised crime, but the first step — the suspension of all personnel until they had been vetted — had to be reversed.
