MEXICO: New pattern of criminality emerges

The number of intentional homicides across Mexico is continuing to fall, while that of kidnappings is rising, as are those for some types of robbery with violence. Analysts are having a hard time finding the indicators that provide the most useful illustration of the trends, and an even harder one linking the different categories of crime with developments in other areas, such as the turf wars between the major drug trafficking organisations and the proliferation of smaller gangs engaging in other criminal activities.
