A sudden surge in homicides is raising fears that violence could soon return to pre-gang-truce levels in El Salvador. Raúl Mijango, one of the mediators of the truce between rival mara gangs, struck in March 2012, insisted that it was just “a temporary crisis” which would be “overcome”.
