In late June and for much of July, Latin America was embroiled in three episodes connected by a single thread: the efforts of the US government to secure the capture of Edward Snowden, the IT expert formerly employed by a National Security Agency (NSA) contractor who had leaked documents showing the extent of US secret electronic surveillance.
