The announcement this week that academic and former diplomat, Luis Guillermo Solís, will run as the presidential candidate for the main opposition centre-left Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) completes the line-up of main contenders ahead of the 2 February 2014 vote. The PAC has also announced that it would not strike an alliance with any of the other parties ahead of the election – echoing similar statements by the centre-right Partido Unidad Socialcristiana (PUSC) and the right-wing Movimiento Libertario (ML).
