Campaigning for primary elections on Sunday to select candidates for October’s legislative polls was suspended on 6 August, following a gas explosion in the city of Rosario. At least 10 people were killed and another 60 were injured after a building collapsed from the force of the blast. President Cristina Fernández immediately signed a decree to declare two days of national mourning; Martín Insaurralde, top of her party list, announced his intention to suspend all closing rallies.
