ARGENTINA: Trying to discern what the primaries portend

President Cristina Fernández has proclaimed that her party, the Frente para la Victoria (FPV), “won” the open primaries held on 11 August to select candidates for the October legislative elections, and that the opposition politicians and media have been “misrepresenting” the results and engaging in “lies and slander”. There has indeed been misrepresentation, but she has indulged in it as well.
