BRAZIL: Bread and butter issues for 2014
Brazil’s minister for institutional relations, Ideli Salvatti, got the backing of the president of the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT), Vagner Freitas, for her efforts to minimise the import of the latest labour market figures, which put jobs growth for the month of July at the lowest level in 10 years. Freitas pointed out that his union colleagues in Europe and the US cannot even dream of talking about the variations in the number of jobs created from one month to the next. “Over there, all there is [to discuss] is the unemployment figures and how to avoid the mass unemployment happening”.
