POLITICS: Congress finally ends secret voting

On 3 September, just a week after Brazil’s federal congress caused uproar by voting not to strip a jailed deputy of his parliamentary mandate – a session subsequently declared ‘without effect’ by the supreme court (STF) — the chamber of deputies redeemed itself by finally voting a constitutional amendment proposal (PEC) to end secret voting.
