DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: Ruling on undocumented migrants causes uproar

A recent ruling by the Dominican Republic (DR)’s constitutional court (TC) is being slammed locally and abroad as an affront to the rights of migrants living in the DR, the vast majority of whom are Haitians. With the migrant issue long a sore point in Haiti-DR relations, the move, which comes as bilateral relations are already strained over trade [RC-13-09], is likely to cause further difficulties for the DR government led by President Danilo Medina, who upon taking office in August 2012 had pledged to improve relations with Haiti.
