ARGENTINA: Government nationalises Sarmiento railway line

After three accidents and 54 deaths in the last year and a half, the government announced its decision to nationalise the Sarmiento railway line from 24 October. The motivation for the decision had less to do with the cumulative cost of the railway’s mismanagement, and more with the cold political logic of another accident, this time injuring 99, a week ahead of the mid-term legislative elections scheduled for 27 October.
