Peru’s congress was scheduled to try again today (4 December) to decide on forming an investigating committee to look into the scandal of official national police (PNP) protection for a man convicted of illegal phone tapping and acts of corruption who had been a participant in the notorious network of former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000)’s notorious former intelligence adviser, Vladimiro Montesinos. Meanwhile, three other investigations have been set in motion which may lead to a conflict between jurisdictions — and, some suggest, to a cover-up.
