REGION| BCIE calls for more infrastructure investment. On 3 December Alejandro Rodríguez, the vice-president of the Central American economic integration bank (BCIE), said that in order to become more competitive and attract more foreign investment, Central American countries need to boost investment in infrastructure so as to promote greater sub-regional economic integration. Rodríguez said that while BCIE has hitherto focused on financing projects aimed at strengthening social integration as part of efforts to increase the sub-region’s competitiveness, there were other areas that could help reduce the various asymmetries found in the sub-region’s economies such as improved physical integration.
