BOLIVIA: Mystery shrouds alleged assassination plot

 A police raid on a hotel in Santa Cruz which left three alleged presidential assassins dead (including two foreigners - an Irishman and a Romanian-Hungarian) last week is proving ripe fodder for conspiracy theorists. While President Evo Morales often accuses his political rivals of conspiracy, this is the first time security forces have responded by killing suspects. With incongruities emerging over the official account of events and Ireland, Hungary and Croatia all demanding an explanation, the government is under pressure to account for the deaths and has created a special committee to investigate what it maintains is an “international terrorist group". The committee will present its final report within a month.
