BRAZIL: Division in congress over bugging enquiry

The latest testimonies of the federal police constable, Protógenes Queiroz, and the banker, Daniel Dantas, to a congressional committee investigating illegal wiretapping have revealed deep divisions among government-allied congressmen. The testimonies failed to cast new light on the mystery surrounding a federal police investigation into Dantas's obscure links with past and present federal administrations. But the enquiry seems to have gone on for long enough to prompt the government to step in and end it.
