COLOMBIA: Coca, cocaine & Farc

Determining how much of Colombia’s coca (and eventually cocaine) production is in the hands of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) is not only a hotly controverted issue in the peace negotiations but is in itself exceedingly difficult: most of the available information is not reliably corroborated, especially as regards the guerrillas’ direct involvement in the trade. To this must be added the fact that much of the data available on coca cultivation and cocaine production is estimated.
