SECURITY | ‘El Patriarca’ to be extradited. On 6 March a Guatemalan criminal court judge, Saúl Álvarez, told reporters that the court had received authorisation from President Otto Pérez Molina to extradite drug lord Waldemar ‘El Patriarca’ Lorenzana Lima to the US. In April 2010 the US Office of Foreign Assets Control identified Lorenzana, who was arrested in April 2011, and three other members of his immediate family as “significant narcotics traffickers” under the Foreign Narcotics Kingpin Designation Act. According to the US Treasury Department, Lorenzana and his sons conspired with the Sinaloa drug trafficking organisation in Mexico and criminal organisations in Colombia to transport drugs into the US via Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico.
