Development: On 6 March thousands of peasants took to the streets of Guatemala’s capital, Guatemala City, to protest the so-called Proyecto de Electrificación Territorial (PET), a US$376m project being carried out by Transportadora de Energía de Centroamérica, S.A. (Trecsa), a subsidiary of the Colombian company Energía de Bogotá (EEB), to expand the national electricity transmission system.
