While Central American countries are physically connected and in close proximity to each other, transport links between them remain underdeveloped to the point that this remains a hindrance to sub-regional trade and the competitiveness of the region as a whole. This was the message of the umpteenth conference on the issue held in San José, Costa Rica, on 8 February. The event sponsored by the World Bank (WB), the Costa Rican foreign trade ministry and Nicaragua’s Incae business school, was organised in a further bid to convince the sub-regional governments to work together to tackle the issue.
