Medina makes first ministerial changes. On 24 April President Danilo Medina appointed Angel Estévez as his new agriculture minister and national deputy, Pelegrín Castillo Semán, as the head of the recently created energy & mining ministry. These represent President Medina's first ministerial changes since he took office in 2012. Castillo will fill a post that has been vacant since its formal creation last year. However, Estevez, who until now presided over the state-owned Banco Agrícola, will replace Luis Ramón Rodríguez, who recently resigned for undisclosed reasons. As well as the ministerial appointments, Medina also named a host of deputy ministers in the energy & mining ministry: energy (Alberto Veloz), energy infrastructure (Antonio Herrera), energy savings (Victoriano Santos) hydrocarbons (Radhamés Reyes Sánchez), mining (Edgar Mejía Butten) and nuclear energy (Enrique Peynado). He also appointed six new deputy ministers at the culture ministry. Finally, Medina also named Estévez’s replacement at the Banco Agrícola as Carlos Segura Foster.
