central message of a speech by President Cristina Fernández broadcast on all
channels on 14 August - a clear riposte to the Roman Catholic Pope Benedict's
allusion to “the scandal of poverty and social inequality" in Argentina
[WR-09-32]. Standing alongside an enormous picture of Eva Perón, Fernández
promised to create 100,000 jobs in 'social cooperatives', composed of between 50
and 70 unemployed people, dedicated to public works projects in poor
