HONDURAS: Micheletti wages PR offensive

“The world is starting to understand what really happened." This was the message conveyed by Roberto Micheletti, head of the de facto government, in two interviews he chose to give this week to coincide with the four day visit to Honduras of the Inter-American commission of human rights, which concludes on 20 August. Micheletti's version of events is likely to be very different to that presented by the IACHR. He reiterated his line that the removal of President Manuel Zelaya from power on 28 June was “not a coup but a presidential succession", and his support for the mediation of Costa Rica's President Oscar Arias. This makes him seem reasonable even though he refuses to budge on the core proposal: Zelaya's return to power.
