An armed attack which took place last month at Croix-des-Bouquets, a prison in Port-au-Prince, enabling 329 of the 899 inmates to escape, including prominent local businessman Clifford Brandt, once again subjected Haiti’s security situation to scrutiny. Brandt, whose arrest in October 2012 on kidnapping charges had previously been hailed as a turning point in anti-impunity efforts, has since been recaptured.
