Congress one short. The current (LXI) congress which was sworn in on 30 August has only 499 members. Julio César Godoy, a deputy elected in Michoacán for the leftwing Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD), is on the run from drug-trafficking charges and will not take his seat. Some politicians feared that Godoy might try and get himself sworn in and thus achieve congressional immunity from prosecution, even though the outgoing congress's standing committee had voted to suspend his membership of congress. An alternate, chosen by the PRD, will now be sworn in.
