BRAZIL | Employment. Brazil closed 415,192 job vacancies in December last year, more than expected. As a result, the total number of job vacancies created in the whole of 2009 stood at 995,110 - the worst result since 2003, according to the official General List of Employed and Unemployed (Caged, in Portuguese acronym). The labour minister, Carlos Lupi, said “the figure is still strong - the strongest in the G-20 - but in comparison with previous years, it is weaker."
