Pope Francis paid a much-publicised visit to Bolivia on 8-10 July as part of his first official trip to South America. Church-State relations in Bolivia have been strained under President Evo Morales and his left-wing ruling Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) government, which first took office in 2006.
