The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) published a report ahead of World Refugee Day on 20 June according to which 2.6% of the world’s population of refugees or persons living in refugee-like conditions originated from the Andean region in 2014, a total of 391,879 people. The report identified 365,029 refugees and asylum-seekers as Colombian by birth, the country in the Andean region with the largest number of emigrants to other countries. The second largest, a total of 12,829, hailed from Venezuela.
