Colombia’s attorney general’s office has appealed to the supreme court to determine if there is sufficient evidence to open an investigation into former president Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010) for alleged links to paramilitaries. The timing of the move has incensed Uribe’s right-wing Centro Democrático (CD). Regional and local elections take place on 25 October and the CD claims that it is the victim of overt political persecution.
