A three-hour televised debate between Colombia's presidential
candidates on 18 April caused a diplomatic ruckus with Ecuador and Venezuela.
One of the questions in the debate broached the sensitive issue of the Colombian
army's bombing of a Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) camp on
Ecuadorean soil in March 2008. Candidates were asked whether they would consider
taking such action again. The presidential candidate for the Partido de la U and
frontrunner in the polls, Juan Manuel Santos, failed to rule it out explicitly,
prompting fierce criticism from Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez and Ecuador's
President Rafael Correa. End of preview - This article contains approximately 577 words.
