HAITI | Summit. Haiti was the focus of the first Brazil-Caricom summit, in Brasí­lia, on 26 April. Haiti's President René Préval attended. Brazil, which leads the UN stabilisation mission in Haiti (Minustah), and Caricom agreed to stage a top-level meeting in 30 days to discuss assisting Haiti. Brazil's President Lula da Silva also said Mercosur and Caricom were moving towards a free trade deal.
