Uncertainty builds in Haiti as senate calls for vote delay

Development: On 20 January Haiti’s senate issued a resolution calling on the provisional electoral council (CEP) to cease all operations for the 24 January second-round presidential run-off between Jude Célestin, the presidential candidate of the opposition Ligue Alternative pour le Progrès et l’Emancipation Haïtienne (Lapeh) party, and Jovenel Moïse, of President Michel Martelly’s Parti Haïtien Têt Kalé (PHTK), as well as partial legislative elections.
