President Mauricio Macri is responding combatively to efforts by the political opposition to outflank him. As the federal lower chamber of congress prepares to vote on 12 May on an ‘anti-dismissal’ bill, already approved by the senate, which would suspend all dismissals for 180 days and grant double severance pay for those already laid off, Macri invited many of Argentina’s foremost business leaders to the presidential palace.
