US expresses concern over Venezuela state of exception

Honduras: On 16 May the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara announced that Fabio Porfirio Lobo, the son of the former president of Honduras, Porfirio Lobo (2010-2014), had pleaded guilty to conspiring to import cocaine into the US. Fabio was arrested in Haiti on 20 May 2015 and arrived in the US on 21 May. According to a statement by Bharara, “Fabio Lobo has now admitted in court that he conspired to import thousands of kilograms of cocaine into the United States. Whether you are a street-level dealer, a member of a cartel, or the son of a former foreign president, drug dealing is drug dealing. It is a serious federal crime for which you will be prosecuted.” According to the indictment, other court filings, and statements made during court proceedings, in 2014 Fabio agreed to assist two purported Mexican drug traffickers, who were in fact confidential sources (the “CSes”) acting at the direction of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), with the transportation of a multi-ton load of cocaine through Honduras so that the narcotics could be imported into the US. Fabio will be sentenced on 15 September 2016.
