BRAZIL: As Dilma pulls away, Cardoso has "serious doubts"

With a fortnight to go before campaigning officially gets underway, Dilma Rousseff, the government's presidential candidate, has pulled clear of her main opposition rival, José Serra, according to a new poll, with a five-point lead in the first round and seven points in the second. Some pundits are now placing bets on a first-round victory for Rousseff on 3 October. Barring an upset, she is well poised to become Brazil's first female president.
