Ecuador's President Rafael Correa is sending out mixed messages to Colombia's
president-elect Juan Manuel Santos. On the one hand, he has accepted an
invitation to the investiture of Santos on 7 August and promised to work towards
restoring full diplomatic relations with Colombia. On the other hand, he claimed
this week that “regrettably" Santos could be arrested if he visited Ecuador
because of the current judicial process against him for orchestrating the
cross-border raid on a Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) camp
in Ecuador in March 2008.
