Electricity tariff increase. On 1 August Mexico’s federal electricity commission (CFE) announced that it was increasing household, commercial, and industrial electricity tariffs respectively by up to 9%, 7.5% and 8.9% with immediate effect. This is the second tariff increase announced by the CFE for commercial and industrial consumers in as many months. As in July the CFE once again said it was related to “the increase in prices in the fuels needed to generate electricity”, particularly that of natural gas, which is the main fuel used by CFE electricity generating plants.
