Just over a week after announcing preliminary results from last month’s presidential vote [WR-16-47], the head of the provisional electoral council (CEP), Léopold Berlanger, revealed the winners of the partial legislative elections which also took place on 20 November. The results suggest that, while likely to be short of a majority in both the incoming 30-member senate and 119-member lower chamber, the Parti Haïtien Tèt Kale (PHTK), the party of former president Michel Martelly (2011-2016), whose candidate Jovenel Moïse looks to have won the presidential contest outright, will have the largest representation in congress. As with the presidential result, however, a string of appeals have been filed against the legislative results, suggesting the outcome is far from certain.End of preview - This article contains approximately 696 words.
