Spontaneous protests are the latest tactic by the Venezuelan opposition as part of its renewed push for early elections. Henrique Capriles Radonski, the state governor of Miranda and leader of the opposition party Primero Justicia (PJ), led a demonstration on 24 January of about 100 people on the Francisco Fajardo expressway in Caracas, the capital’s main east-west artery, to demand that the delayed regional elections for governors and mayors in the country’s 23 states be held this year.
