The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and US embassy in Guatemala were among the institutions to come out this month in firm support of the UN-backed International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (Cicig) and its Colombian director, Iván Velásquez. The show of backing follows complaints of a smear campaign against both Cicig and Velásquez in recent weeks.
