Last week marked the start of a new era of Mexico-US relations. On 23 February US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and US Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly became the first officials from the new government led by President Donald Trump to conduct an official visit to Mexico. Given that throughout his electoral campaign, and since taking office in January, Trump has advocated ‘America first’ policy measures, considered by many to be anti-Mexican, relations have become strained between the two ‘strategic partners’.
