This was the response of Francisca Ramírez, the leader of the Consejo Nacional por la Tierra, Lago y Soberanía protest group (‘Consejo Nacional’), to the recent deployment of police (PNN) officials. This ultimately meant that a proposed march, scheduled for 21-22 April against the US$50bn ‘Gran Canal’ project to link the country’s Caribbean and Pacific coasts, was unable to go ahead.
