Military return to barracks in Ecuador

The state of exception is over in Ecuador. The defence minister Javier Ponce made the announcement on 7 December. The military has been maintained in Quito since the state of exception was declared on 30 September in the wake of the police revolt that saw President Rafael Correa sequestered in a hospital for 10 hours. Soldiers, who had protected inter alia the national assembly building and the Carondelet palace, will now return to barracks.
