* During his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President Michel Temer called for greater international cooperation on climate change, asking all UN members to observe the Paris Climate Agreement. Against criticism of his government’s own environmental policies, Temer said that deforestation in Brazil had fallen by 20% last year, citing a study from Imazon. However, authors of that study claimed that Temer had got the figures wrong. They called Temer’s interpretation of their statistics “imprecise” and “inadequate” in an interview with news site BBCBrasil.
