* The head of the Mexico City government (GCDMX), Miguel Angel Mancera, has signed a decree calling for the development of a reconstruction, recovery, and transformation programme for Mexico City (CMDX) following the 19 September earthquake. As part of the programme, Mancera has ordered the launch of the ‘initial social and economic emergency response package’, which has released emergency funds for the authorities to provide assistance to all those affected by the quake, including economic assistance to repair damaged buildings, access to preferential loans to rebuild homes, and temporary rent support for those whose homes were completely destroyed by the natural disaster. According to Mancera the funds for the programme will principally come from the CDMX emergency fund, which currently holds M$3bn (US$167m). But Mancera said that additional funding would come from the national natural disaster fund (Fonden), as well as from the donations made by the private sector.
