Firstly, his ruling centre-right Cambiemos coalition triumphed in gubernatorial elections in the north-eastern province of Corrientes. An exultant Macri is betting on the result having a ripple effect across northern Argentina in the mid-term federal congressional elections on 22 October, allowing Cambiemos to expand its presence in both chambers of congress.
