In brief: Mexico

* Mexico’s finance ministry (SHCP) dispensed M$6.84bn (US$360m) in immediate aid following a series of earthquakes which hit on 7 and 19 September. Of this, M$2.45bn (US$130m) went to Oaxaca; M$1.68bn (US$90m) to Chiapas; M$688m (US$36m) to Morelos; and M$669m (US$35m) to Mexico City state. The remaining M$2.36bn (US$120m) was divided between Puebla, Estado de Mexico (Edomex), Guerrero, Tlaxcala, and Veracruz. The information has been made available on the government’s budgetary transparency portal (PTP) in a move designed to improve accountability for the allocation of disaster relief resources.
